He Hears Us

“I hear you honey.  I hear you,” I repeated to my screaming, squirming 10 month old.   She desperately wanted me to stop wiping her face.  I knew what she wanted.  Although I knew she would be temporarily appeased if I stopped, I continued wiping.  Why?  Because I knew that if I let the food dry on her face, it would be much harder to get off later.

How often are we like my sweet Adalyn?  Screaming for relief, trying to squirm our way out of discomfort, focused on the present.  But just as I didn’t immediately appease my daughter, God doesn’t always answer our requests.  Because He sees the big picture.  He knows that bringing us through the present discomfort creates a future that we can’t yet see.  He uses the trials we encounter to transform us into His likeness.

Heavenly Father, thank you that when we face trials in this life, we can rest on your promise that you cause everything to work together for our good.  Thank you that your love us enough to refine us.  Thank you that you walk along side us through the mountains and the valleys.  Lord, I pray that we are open to what you bring us through, not focused on the present discomfort, but rather, setting our sights on what you are going to do through it.  I love you Lord.
